footprintz
this posting is in honor of my son, alex. he is packing tonight to go on a camping trip with his best friend and godfather. alex is quite a bit older than in the photo i used in the collage -- about to go into middle school.
this collage came together effortlessly, easily. this was also my first experiment in bleaching photos.
the blog entry title is a pun on the name of the collage, "footprints," and my last name, printz.

ugly collages
i don't know what's wrong. i have been trying to make collages for the past couple of days to post here -- the "ten minute" supposedly easy kind -- and they have come out HORRIBLE. i have some paintings waiting to be finished, thank goodness.
now, my challenge is....what to do with the ugly collages??? first i threw them away, but i can't stand to be wasteful of good art supplies, meaning the back side of good watercolor paper. so back on the art table they went for another day.

karate kids grown up
i found a karate instruction book in bargain section of our local used bookstore and have had tremendous fun with cutting it up! i used to cringe at cutting books -- i owned a bookstore for quite a few years. now i delight in it.
this is a small collage -- about the size you see on your screen -- 3" x 3" and done on watercolor paper. i've posted it on my etsy store, too, at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=13549077.

dear mrs. larner
today's collage, dear mrs. larner, is made of antique letters that my dear friend phyllis gave to me for graduation from college. other people thought it was a strange gift, an old box of letters. at the time i was writing a lot, poetry and essays, and phyllis was convinced that i would write a great novel.
the letters were boring. very mundane. no drama, love letters or the like. i quit writing. but years later those letters are a treasure trove of material to use in my collages.
Amy Alice Thompson's collages
amy alice thompson makes gorgeous collages. ethereal. her mix of drawing, vintage and origami papers are delicious. be forwarned, faint of heart -- she also has a very cool series of smut collages. btw -- "smut" is her word, not mine. but i did once work in a shop that sold gag gifts, and i think i recognize a couple of those photos!

etsy shop
after an inexcusable delay, i am finally returning to my much-neglected blog! ok, maybe starting a new job and moving out of the house i had lived in for fifteen years excuse a little:)
i have continued doing my quicky collages, howevcr, and will start posting them to my blog.
i have also started an etsy shop, which i hope you all will visit. today is my first day and i am hoping for good things.
my shop is at www.paperwerks.etsy.com. please check it out. the collages i post here are for sale there, along with some other work.
